The Mods

Mens Mod clothing is as relevant today as it has always been, especially for men. The mod scene occurred from the late fifties to the mid sixties and saw men and women become positively obsessed by having a smart and highly stylised appearance. Mens Mod clothing can still be seen in many fashion items today such as cardigans, tailored shirts and suits along with perfectly coiffured hair.

Olympic star Bradley Wiggins is currently bringing the Mod clothing style back into the public sphere.

How It All Began
In post war Britain, young adults were experiencing a freedom such as never before.  As the economy improved they could live cheaply at home and earn well, leaving more money to spend on quality clothing.  In contrast to the rocker styles of the early to mid fifties, the mod look was about being smart and dressing to impress.  The smart style accompanied a taste for R&B and Jamaican music as well as the essential mod accessory, of course, a scooter.

Mod clothing is still a popular choice for men who like to look good and there are many dedicated followers of fashion out there keeping it Mod.  Tailored suits and button down shirts are a key part of the look, often owing to Italian or French design.  Mod clothing is not baggy and nothing has been left unconsidered in the final outfit. The look is all about clean and sharp lines, not a crease or fold should be seen.  For women the style is both boyish and confidentially feminine.  The Mod clothing style saw women have short hair but also wear short skirts which were straight cut and simple.  Mod motifs include the RAF symbol and the Union Jack.

Footwear
No aspect of an outfit was overlooked and least of all shoes.  For men the shoes were and still are, smart and simple. Brogues, desert boots, chelsea boots and loafers are all acceptable to modclothing. Trousers nearly always finish before the shoes unlike the later flares and boot cuts of the sixties.

Mens Mod clothing will come and go although  for some more dedicated wearers it is a fashion statement that always stays with you.  It is not as casual or comfortable as say an uber cool surfers look created by Animal surf clothing or perhaps an urban sports look.  The mod clothing style requires constant attention to detail.
